I have always adored the Minneapolis skyline for its unique and aesthetically pleasing layout. When fog settles overtop the tallest buildings, it adds a senes of mystery and creates a dreamlike atmosphere. The city appears awake yet quiet, existing in a state between stillness and motion.

"Beautiful Country, Deplorable State" is a weathered American flag. It asks you to reconcile all the good of America (civil rights, moon landing, Capitol crawl, protests, passing of gay marriage, etc.) with all of the wrong of America (Trail of Tears, slavery, segregation, Japanese internment, etc).

My inspiration was my identity as a patient throughout treatment for my mental health. I included mottos that helped me, quotes of dark thoughts I had, and real medical documents--my personal information has been redacted.
The banner at the top is based on my semi colon tattoo of the same quote.

This series focuses on 4 neurotransmitters that regulate the body and mind. A common symptom of PTSD and other mental disorders is the loss of memory. I share images from my childhood that have been blocked from my mind. The evidence of photos and the help of professionals put my puzzle together.

This piece is comprised entirely of imagery found at estate sales. I scanned glass plates, 35mm film negatives, & vintage tool diagrams, digitally reprinted them, collaged them on paper, scanned this collage, further manipulated it in photoshop, then color separated & screenprinted the composition.
